Two Nights Of Musical Legends: Classic East At Citi Field – Photos & Setlists

Citi Field in New York City hosted six legendary acts over the course of this past weekend for the inaugural installment of Classic East. Saturday featured sets from The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan and the Eagles, while Sunday featured sets from Earth Wind & Fire, Journey and Fleetwood Mac. All six bands stuck to similar gameplans as they did earlier in the month at Classic West in Los Angeles.

The Doobies treated attendees to a mix of their greatest hits such as “Jesus Is Just Alright,” “Listen To The Music” and “Takin’ It To The Streets” along with deeper cuts including “Spirit,” “Sweet Maxine” and “Clear As The Driven Snow.” Once again Steely Dan performed without co-founding guitarist Walter Becker who is recovering from an undisclosed illness. Larry Carlton stepped up as special guest for the Dan’s 13-song performance. New Eagles Vince Gill and Deacon Frey continue to shine in the absence of the late Glenn Frey. The Eagles set was chock full of beloved classics and even saw Don Henley dust off “New York Minute” for the occasion, marking the solo tune’s first appearance in an Eagles set in 15 years.

Earth Wind & Fire kept the late Maurice White in fans’ minds with video tributes throughout the group’s 14-song set. Journey then reeled off a 17-song performance complete with a pair of scorching solos from Neal Schon and solos from drummer Steve Smith and Jonathan Cain. Vocalist Arnel Pineda shined in particular on “Open Arms,” “Faithfully” and “Don’t Stop Believin.” Fleetwood Mac headlined Sunday’s action with a 20-song set that included such fan favorites as “Rhiannon,” “Dreams,” “Gypsy” and “Go Your Own Way.” A bevy of fireworks were set off as the “Don’t Stop” encore concluded.
