Trey Anastasio Band Pays Tribute To Chuck Berry In St. Louis

Last night Trey Anastasio brought his Trey Anastasio Band ensemble to The Pageant in St. Louis. TAB has debuted many covers over the course of their current tour and continued that trend on Wednesday evening.

Guitarist Chuck Berry was born in St. Louis. He was closely associated with the city up through his death earlier this year. Anastasio used the opportunity of TAB’s show in St. Louis to honor Berry by leading his troupe through “Back In The U.S.A.” Last night marked the first time Trey had performed Chuck Berry’s 1959 hit with any of his projects.

“Back In The U.S.A.” served as the opener of Wednesday night’s TAB show. The evening’s first set focused mostly on originals including “Gotta Jibboo,” “Pigtail,” “Tuesday,” “Sand” and the recently debuted “Everything’s Right.” Other covers played besides the Chuck Berry song were “1977” and “O-o-h Child.” Wednesday’s second set featured a handful of songs that haven’t been played very often this tour in the form of “In Rounds,” “Spin,” “Goodbye Head” and “Plasma.” TAB ended the evening with an encore of “Shine” and “The Devil Went Down To Georgia.”
