Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio‘s fall tour with his Trey Anastasio Band outfit is well underway after the ensemble capped a two-night run at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas on Saturday night. While Friday’s tour opener featured the biggest bust out in TAB history, there were more surprises in store for the Vegas finale.
TAB kicked off the festivities with just the third “Sweet Dreams Melinda” since 2014. “Speak To Me” came next along with “Mozambique,” which showcased the skills of Natalie “Chainsaw” Cressman. From there, TAB played old standbys “Cayman Review” and “Last Tube.” Anastasio wrote “Tide Turns” for Phish and the Motown-esque number was included on the quartet’s Big Boat. TAB unveiled their take on “Tide Turns” in April and the song returned again in Vegas. Just the second “The Way I Feel” since 2015 followed before the Trey Anastasio Band dusted off “Burn That Bridge” for the first time since December 11, 2014. James Casey provided a “Dope Sax Solo” as requested by a fan with a sign in both “Burn That Bridge” and the “Burlap Sack & Pumps” that came next. The set concluded with the recently debuted “Rise/Come Together” and the always propulsive “Push On ’til The Day.”
Anastasio and his ensemble opened the second set with “Gotta Jibboo” and then pulled again from 2015’s Paper Wheels for “In Rounds.” Another suprise laid ahead as TAB dusted off the instrumental “Tube Top Flop” for the first time since December 12, 2014. Just the third “Lever Boy” of the year led into a run of “Goodbye Head,” “Alaska,” “Tuesday” and “Plasma.” Jennifer Hartswick then spit rhymes on a cover of Gorillaz’s “Cint Eastwood” ahead of a crowd-pleasing “First Tube” set closer. The Trey Anastasio Band said farewell to Sin City with an encore of “Show Of Life” and “The Parting Glass.” Saturday’s “Show Of Life” was just the second of 2017.
