The Killers headlined the Ohana Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California on Friday. The band welcomed festival host Eddie Vedder for a Tom Petty cover and unveiled a 1980s hit from Van Halen with the band’s Sammy Hagar.

The Killers’ Brandon Flowers fronted the group on favorites “Mr. Brightside” and “Spaceman” to kick off the set. Flowers then introduced his fellow frontman before Vedder, who acknowledged a fan in the audience with a Killers shirt who had been “waiting” all day for the band. “I think we should sing this song for him,” Flowers told the crowd.

The collab then launched into the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers classic “The Waiting.” Ohana usually takes place on or around the date, October 2, that Tom Petty passed away in 2017. Today marks six years since the legendary rocker died. 2022’s event saw tributes to Tom as Stevie Nicks welcomed Ed for her 1981 collaborative single with Petty, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” Heartbreaker guitarist Mike Campbell also joined Vedder’s Earthlings band for “Room At The Top,” off Petty and company’s 1999 album, Echo.

The Petty tributes continued on Friday with “The Waiting,” which saw Vedder handling the first verse and Flowers fronting the second with the singers coming together for the chorus. Watch the team up below:

The Killers closed the set with “All These Things That I’ve Done” from the band’s 2004 debut album, Hot Fuss. The band returned to the stage for the encore with Flowers asking “Is it too late to blow your minds again?” Brandon then brought out Van Halen’s Sammy Hagar, who stepped in for David Lee Roth in 1985. Hagar helped The Killers out on Van Halen’s 1986 hit, “Why Can’t This Be Love.” The Killers then went it alone to close their Ohana set with “When We Were Young.”
