Eddie Vedder Performs Tom Petty Covers With Stevie Nicks & Mike Campbell At Ohana Fest

Sunday, October 2 marked five years since Tom Petty passed away. Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California this past weekend saw the Pearl Jam frontman joining Stevie Nicks during her set for one of her collaborations with Tom and welcoming Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell for a pair of Petty tunes during the Eddie Vedder and the Earthlings set.
Nicks headlined the festival on Friday, September 30. Four songs into the set she delivered her 1981 duet with Petty, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” with Vedder emerging to sing Tom’s parts. Tom Petty wrote “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Mike Campbell and most of the Heartbreakers served as the backing band on the recording, which appeared on Nick’s 1981 album, Bella Donna.
Mike Campbell joined Eddie Vedder and the Earthlings — including Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith — for their headlining set the following evening. Vedder and Campbell kicked off their collaboration with “Room At The Top,” off the 1999 album Echo. Vedder addressed the audience before the next tune saying, “Mike Campbell & The Diry Knobs, they played on this stage today. We got to hear a little Tom already. It’s turning into Tom fest this weekend and I couldn’t be happier about it.”
The collaborators then delivered the Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers classic “The Waiting.” Both “Room At The Top” and “The Waiting” appeared in Earthlings setlists earlier in the year and Ed performed the tunes with Heartbreakers keyboardist and Earthling collaborator Bemont Tench in February.
