The Black Crowes Debut Little Feat Cover In Tempe

When The Black Crowes started their “Lay Down With Number 13” tour earlier this year, they kept the setlists very similar from one night to the next. As the tour progressed, the band started digging deeper into their vast catalog and that trend has continued into the fall. In addition there have been plenty of new covers added to repertoire. Last night at the Marquee Theater in Tempe, AZ saw the latest of these additions as The Black Crowes ended the show by debuting their version of “Dixie Chicken” by Little Feat.

Chris & Rich Robinson and Co. have long covered Little Feat’s road song “Willin'” and have sung the praises of the band since their early days. The Crowes laid down an 11-song main set last night that included many of their best-known songs along with a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Oh! Sweet Nuthin'” and the “Hard To Handle / Hush” mash-up they’ve been performing all tour. When the group returned for the encore they started off with “She Talks To Angels” before unveiling a straight-forward, jam-less rendition of “Dixie Chicken.”
