The Avett Brothers Bring Out ‘Swept Away’ Cast Members At Capitol Theatre

The Avett Brothers wrapped a two-night stand at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Saturday. The band welcomed the cast members of the Broadway musical, Swept Away, which features the music of The Avett Brothers, to kick off the encore.

Swept Away premiered at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2022. It moved to Washington D.C.’s Arena Stage and finally Broadway in the fall of 2024, running until the end of the year at the Longacre Theatre. Swept Away features music by The Avett Brothers, mostly from their 2004 album Mignonette.

Both the 2004 album and the musical were inspired by the true story of sailors stranded in a lifeboat after their vessel, The Mignonette, sank off South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope. The Avett Brothers released a Swept Away album earlier this year featuring the original cast including John Gallagher Jr., Stark Sands and Adrian Blake Enscoe, who joined The Avetts to perform “Swept Away” at The Cap. The Avett Brothers kicked off the concert with “We Are Loved” from their 2024 self-titled studio album. The band performed four more tracks from the record including “Forever Now,” “Love of a Girl,” “Orion’s Belt” and more.

Additional Avett favorites performed included “I and Love and You,” “No Hard Feelings,” “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise,” “Ain’t No Man,” and “Murder in the City.” Following the “Swept Away” performance, Scott and Seth Avett led the band through “Traveling Song” and The Avett Brothers cut “2020 Regret” to seal the show.
