The Terrapin Family Band will commemorate the 50th anniversary of a historic Grateful Dead show held at San Francisco’s Cow Palace on March 23, 1974 with a concert of their own in Napa, California. The celebratory show will take place at JaM Cellars Ballroom on Saturday, March 23.

The Grateful Dead debuted the legendary Wall Of Sound system at the Cow Palace on March 23, 1974. Dubbed “The Sound Check,” the four-hour concert was the culmination of years of work put into the game-changing and massive array of speakers dreamed up by Owsley “Bear” Stanley. Both “Scarlet Begonias” and “Cassidy,” two songs that would be staples of the band’s repertoire for the next 21 years, were premiered at the Cow Palace.
