Tedeschi Trucks Band with Jake Peavy & The Outsiders :: 1.13.17 :: Saenger Theatre :: Mobile, AL

The Tedeschi Trucks Band took to the stage for their first show of 2017 on Friday night at the Saenger Theatre in Mobile, Alabama. A capacity crowd not only enjoyed a career-spanning set from the TTB, but also a performance from hometown hero Jake Peavy and his band The Outsiders. Not only is Jake a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants who counts a Cy Young among his awards, he’s also a talented guitarist and vocalist. The Outsiders finds Peavy joined by guitarist Ben Jernigan, vocalist/trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick, keyboardist Chris Spies, drummer Jermal Watson, guitarist/vocalist Grahame Lesh, vocalists Alex Jordan, Elliott Peck and Jillian Secor, multi-instrumentalist Brooks Hubbert III, saxophonist Christopher Sawyer Spies, bassist Kevin Scott, guitarist Jeremy Plog and more. Jake and his huge band treated the audience to a six-song set that included “Lies,” “Atlantic,” a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “U.S. Blues” and more.

The main event on Friday was a set from the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Band leaders and husband and wife duo Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks led the 12-piece outfit through a performance heavy on such TTB gems as “Don’t Know What It Means,” “Laugh About It” and “I Want More.” As usual, the band provided plenty of covers including Taj Mahal’s “Leavin’ Trunk,” the David Bowie popularized “It Ain’t Easy” and Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice.” Sacred steel specialist Roosvelt Collier joined in the fun on “Bound For Glory.” Following the show, the action moved to Jake Peavy’s Dauphin Street Sound studios for an after-party.
