Tedeschi Trucks Band brought their four-pack run of shows at the Chicago Theatre to a close on Saturday. The rock and soul ensemble split the performances between two weekends, with Saturday night’s finale featuring their debut take the Allman Brothers Band classic “Dreams.”
Tedeschi Trucks Band began their finale in the Windy City by dropping “Hard Case,” the lead single from their highly-anticipated studio album Signs in between a pair of songs from Derek & The Dominos lone studio album – “Anyday” and the blues standard “Key To The Highway.” From there the multi-piece act would stick to their own material delivering takes on “Bound For Glory,” “Right On Time,” a powerhouse take on “Midnight In Harlem” and “Made Up My Mind.”
“Don’t Let Me Slide” from 2011’s Revelator was tapped to open the second frame of the night. Covers of “Let’s Go Get Stoned,” “How Blue Can You Get?” and “Leaving Trunk” helped fill out the first half of the stanza. The biggest surprise of the night followed as the Tedeschi Trucks Band unveiled their take on the Allman Brothers’ “Dreams” for the first time live. Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilded Splinters” and the pairing of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” and the Grateful Dead’s “Sugaree” helped close out the frame. A two-song encore of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Sing a Simple Song” and “I Want to Take You Higher” closed out the band’s Chicago Theatre run.
