Tanya Tucker has announced a new album, While I’m Livin’, which is due out on August 23 via Fantasy Records. Produced by Brandi Carlile and Shooter Jennings, the 11-track LP marks the award-winning country legend’s first new material since her 2002 release Tanya. In support of the record, Tucker has released lead single and music video “The Wheels of Laredo” and joined forces with Carlile during a performance of “Delta Dawn” at the CMT Music Awards last night.
While I’m Livin’ features songs penned by Tucker, Carlile and Carlile’s long-standing collaborators, twins Tim Hanseroth and Phil Hanseroth. It also includes a selection of covers, including 1987’s “High Ridin’ Heroes,” which was initially released in 1987 by David Lynn Jones and Shooter Jennings’ father Waylon Jennings. It also sports renditions of Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin’s “The House That Built Me,” which was recorded by Miranda Lambert in 2010, and Josefus’ 1979 single “Hard Luck.”

Read Carlile’s description of the album:
It’s a musical biography of sorts … about Tanya’s real life and the places she’s seen, and it’s narrated by the greatest country and western singer this side of Johnny Cash. … We have so few opportunities to thank the legends that have influenced the generations of Country music singers and writers. With Tanya, we have quite an opportunity because she’s young. I’m drawn to Tanya Tucker because she’s been to hell and to heaven, not to mention every square inch of Texas. She’s lived, she’s living, she’s got something to say and I’m listening.
Tucker added the following of working with Brandi:
Brandi is truly out of this world. She’s talented, smart, funny, never ever slows down and has a heart of gold. … I just love her. She was like my shadow when we were in the studio. Every time I turned around, she was there. And Shooter, I’ve known him since he was a baby. He’s the one who brought us all together. So I’m ready to get this music out there because it’s different than anything I’ve ever done.

As mentioned, on Wednesday, June 5, Carlile and Tucker performed at the 2019 CMT Music Awards. The duo led an all-star group of country stars for a powerful take on “Delta Dawn.” Tucker released the song at the age of 13, with the 1972 track going on to become a top-ten country hit and effectively launching her long-spanning career.
