Sublime announced the band is recording a new full-length studio album. The record will be the group’s first with frontman Jakob Nowell, the son of late co-founding frontman Bradley Nowell.

Sublime disbanded in 1996 after Bradley Nowell died of an overdose at age 28. Wilson and Gaugh reformed and toured and recorded as Sublime with Rome, featuring Rome Ramirez, from 2009 until Rome’s departure in 2023 (Gaugh left the group in 2011).

Jakob Nowell joined Sublime co-founders, bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh, last year, touring extensively with his father’s former bandmates. Sublime’s first single in nearly 30 years, “Feel Like That,” featuring both Bradley and Jakob’s vocals, and Stick Figure, was also released in 2024.

Sublime’s recent studio work saw the trio joined by producing duo Travis Barker and John Feldmann, as well as producer Jon Joseph.

“I grew up on Sublime,” said Barker. “40oz. to Freedom changed the way I listened to music. I’m so honored to be working with the guys in Sublime. Creating music for this album has been so fun and exciting. Bradley comes through his son Jakob while writing in the studio and performing. Chills every day in the studio when he sings and play guitar. This is going to be really special.”

The band did not share the pending album’s title or release date. The first single is expected to arrive this summer via Sublime’s new label, Sublime Recordings.

“Sublime has always been a huge influence on me and to be able work with the band has been inspirational and game changing,” Feldmann added. “It has been a highlight of my life to work on such a seminal record with such talented people. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and to continue the legacy and keep it authentic to what they have historically done.”
