Sturgill Simpson Returns As Johnny Blue Skies For Extensive 2024 Fall Tour & New Album

Sturgill Simpson is coming back to music in a big way later this year. Simpson both recorded a new album entitled Passage Du Desir and will embark on a fall tour of North America under the pseudonym Johnny Blue Skies.

The renowned singer-songwriter previously promised he’d only release five albums under his own name. Sturgill begins the Johnny Blue Skies chapter of his career when Passage Du Desir arrives via Simpson’s High Top Mountain Records label on July 12. The follow-up to 2020’s Cuttin’ Grass compilations features eight songs produced by Johnny Blue Skies and David Ferguson. Passage Du Desir was recorded during sessions held at Nashville’s Clement House Recording Studio and at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London.

Sturgill Simpson and his band — Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keys), Laur Joamets (guitar) and Miles Miller (drums) — will follow a previously announced headlining slot at Outside Lands in San Francisco with their first full tour since 2020.

The Why Not? Tour begins on September 14 at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Johnny Blue Skies, aka Sturgill Simpson, will play a total of 28 dates through a performance on November 23 at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway. Santa Barbara Bowl, Washington state’s The Gorge, KettleHouse Amphitheatre in Missoula, Detroit’s Fox Theatre, Salt Shed in Chicago, Forest Hills Stadium in Queens and Toronto’s Massey Hall are among the venues the tour will visit this fall.
