Earlier this month, Sound Tribe gave JamBase their first full-band interview since parting ways with former bassist David Murphy. STS9 revealed to us the theme of this year’s Halloween show would be funk and the band lived up to its word last night at War Memorial in Nashville.

The evening started with a cover of “Family Affair” by Sly & The Family Stone. After working through originals “When The Dust Settles, “Gobnugget” and “Monkey Music,” Tribe debuted a cover of “Mothership Connection (Star Child)” by Parliament Funkadelic. The funk classic featured special guest Maureen Murphy of Seygo on vocals. The first set concluded with runs through “Wika Chikana,” “Oil & Water,” “Mobsters,” “Nautilus” and “Aimlessly.” While the second set mostly focused on originals, STS9 did drop “Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off)” before and after segments of “Dance.” For the encore, Sound Tribe treated fans to their popular cover of “Shakedown Street.”
