STS9 Covers Sly, Dead, Zeppelin & Isleys In California

The biggest surprise of the weekend came towards the beginning of Friday night’s second set, when Tribe worked the jam out of “Gobnuggett” into the debut cover of the Grateful Dead’s “West L.A. Fadeaway.” STS9’s funky, instrumental re-working of “West L.A.” eventually segued into “Re-Emergence.” Watch fan-shot video of the pairing thanks to stealthvids9:
Later in the set, STS9 had another treat in store when they presented a version of “Wika Chikaka” that featured a debut cover of The Isley Brothers’ “Footsteps In The Dark” within it. There were more surprises in store for Saturday night in the Bay Area. After opening the second set with “Dance,” the ensemble slickly transitioned into Sly & The Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)”. Here’s fan-shot footage of how that went down courtesy of Rob F.:
Sound Tribe got the led out as the second set in Oakland came to a close with a crazy “Abcees” > “No Quarter” > “Abcees” > “No Quarter” > “Abcees” pairing. Next up for STS9 is Dominican Holidaze in Punta Cana, D.R.
