The String Cheese Incident & Friends Cover Bob Marley’s ‘Crisis’ For 1st Responders
Members of The String Cheese Incident teamed with a number of their musical friends to record a cover of “Crisis” by Bob Marley. Jennifer Hartswick, Jeff Coffin, Jeff Chimenti and Nigel Hall are among those who contributed to the single and isolation video, which comes as a tribute to those on the frontlines of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
The String Cheese Incident’s Michael Kang and Jason Hann represent SCI in the all-star rendition of the song from Kaya, a studio album Marley released in 1978. Hartswick handles lead vocals, Coffin plays sax, while Chimenti, Hall and Snarky Puppy‘s Shaun Martin are on keys. Michael Kang and Jason Hann both recorded multiple tracks for “Crisis,” which also features contributions from bassist MonoNeon, guitarist Mark Lettieri and drummer Robert “Sput” Searight.
“Bob Marley’s ‘Kaya’ album has been on repeat for a week straight on my phone! I have always loved ‘Crisis’ and it seems so fitting for the times,” explained Michael Kang in a statement. “Since a bunch of our musician friends have been sitting around, we all remotely ‘got together’ to put this song out as a tribute to all the people on the front line of COVID Relief. Enjoy! We will all get to play together again soon enough!”
