Colorado’s own The String Cheese Incident continued their 2017 Roots Revival Tour on Tuesday night at The Belly Up in Aspen. The band opened with an acoustic first set and then went full electric for the second set and encore. SCI worked a cover debut into their performance and also a trio of bust outs.

After opening with “Shine” and a “Missin’ Me” > “Midnight Moonlight” sequence, The String Cheese Incident dusted off a cover of “Stingray” by Sam Bush for the first time since July 14, 2013. They followed that up with their debut performance of Onus B. Johnson’s “Purple Strains (Earl’s Song)” ahead of “MLT,” “Sometimes A River” and “Colorado Bluebird Sky” to end the first set.

“It Is What It Is” served as the second set opener and later the group worked Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman” into Bill Monroe’s “Big Mon” and their first “Rollin’ In My Sweet Baby’s Arms” since New Year’s Eve ’15 – ’16. Another surprise was in store as Cheese busted out Bill Nershi’s “Big Shoes” for the first time since October 19, 2015. For the encore, SCI played the JGB repertoire staple “Don’t Let Go.” The band returns to the Belly Up tonight.
