The String Cheese Incident Delivers Guest-Filled Red Rocks Finale – Photos, Videos & Setlist

Jam stalwarts The String Cheese Incident concluded their annual three-night stand at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on Sunday. In typical fashion, the Sunday show was a matinee performance and saw the band welcome guests for the third night in a row. Rising Appalachia kicked off the action with a set before SCI played two sets of their own. SCI opened with a big surprise as they covered “The Hobo Song” by Jack Bonus for just the third time in the past decade and first since August 14, 2016. Cheese kept the bluegrass coming with Bill Nershi’s “Road Home” and Flatt & Scruggs’ “Doin’ My Time.” Next, “Restless Wind” gave the sextet a chance to dig in ahead of a performance of the recently debuted “Manga” written by Jason Hann. A pairing of “Cedar Laurels” and “Eye Know Why” brought the first set to a close.

The String Cheese Incident’s sixth and final set of their 2018 visit to Red Rocks began with just the fourth live performance of “Vertigo,” a song shared as a single from the SCI Sound Lab last month. Cheese then segued from fan-favorite “Round The Wheel” into the year’s first “Round The Wheel.” Next, Elephant Revival vocalist/washboard player Bonnie Paine collaborated with the band on “My One & Only.” Paine wrote “My One & Only” with SCI keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth. A lengthy “Howard” and a sequence of “Close Your Eyes” > “Valley Of The Jig” ended the frame. The String Cheese Incident was joined by Paine, longtime collaborator (and Bill Nershi’s wife) Jilian Nershi and members of Rising Appalachia for an “I’ll Fly Away” encore. Cheese had only played the spiritual, which dates back to 1929, once prior exactly 11 years earlier in Berkeley. Photographer Jeremy Williams was on hand at Red Rocks on Sunday to capture the action.
