The String Cheese Incident celebrated their induction into the Colorado Music Hall Of Fame before the start of their concert Thursday night in Denver. The show, which was the first of three New Year’s Run performances at The Mission Ballroom, featured special guests Kanika Moore and Antwaun Stanley joining the band throughout the celebratory evening.

Prior to the start of the first set, Don Strasburg and Chuck Morris of the Colorado Music Hall Of Fame spoke about The String Cheese Incident’s legacy since forming in Crested Butte in 1993. SCI bassist Keith Moseley addressed the audience on behalf of the band and offered gratitude for receiving the prestigious honor.

The String Cheese Incident opened Thursday’s show with “Round the Wheel” segueing into “Can’t Stop Now.” Next came “Looking Glass,” which transitioned into Weather Report’s “Birdland.” The instrumental cover surrounded a run through “Remington Ride.” Stanley was the first guest to emerge as the frequent Vulfpeck collaborator came out for SCI’s debut performance of Bill Withers’ “When I’m Kissing My Love.” Moore, who fronts Doom Flamingo, then came onstage to add her vocals to “Miss Brown’s Teahouse,” with Stanley exiting before the set-closing cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Shakedown Street.”

The second set began with another cover debut, this time with Moore helping out on The Allman Brothers Band’s classic “Whipping Post.” SCI went guest-less for the remainder of set two, which continued with “All We Got” and the first “Sing A New Song” since November 7, 2019. The rest of the set was filled in with “Can’t Wait Another Day,” “Sand Dollar,” “Best Feeling” and “Rosie.”

The encore began with Antwaun Stanley onstage for a bust out cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground,” which SCI had not played since July 3, 2009. The night ended with Kanika Moore coming back for The String Cheese Incident’s first performance of Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure.”

SCI’s New Year’s Run continues tonight with another show at The Mission Ballroom featuring special guest Judith Hill. Livestreams are available via Watch pro-shot video of last night’s first set opener and additional audience-shot footage below:
