The String Cheese Incident with Grant Farm :: 7.23.17 :: Red Rocks Amphitheatre :: Morrison, CO
Jam stalwarts The String Cheese Incident brought a three-night stand at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado to a close on Sunday night with support from The Grant Farm. SCI honored their home state by picking local acts to open this year’s run as well as welcoming a handful of Colorado-based musicians to sit-in. They also had Denver comedian Josh Blue perform at setbreak on Sunday. The matinee performance saw SCI kick off their first of two sets with a “100 Year Flood” > “Can’t Wait Another Day” sequence. Rarity “Indian Creek” was up next followed just the second “Resume Man” since Hulaween ’14. Fans who contributed to the PledgeMusic campaign surrounding the band’s recent album helped select the songs SCI played during Saturday’s first set and focused on oldies. A run of four originals that date back to the late ’90s – “Galactic” > “Don’t Say” > “Shine” > “Texas” – ended the first set.
The String Cheese Incident returned to the stage after Blue’s standup performance during intermission. “Rivertrance” opened and gave way to “Dirk.” SCI then brought out Tyler Grant of The Grant Farm to help out on “Get Tight.” Cheese went right back to old school favorites with a set-closing sequence of “Little Hands,” “Born On The Wrong Planet” and a “Rollover” that included a cover of Bob Marley’s “Soul Shakedown Party.” SCI began the encore by welcoming Andy Hall and Chris Pandolfi of The Infamous Stringdusters to add to “Black Clouds” and then debuted a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Brown-Eyed Women” featuring Tyler Grant before saying farewell with a “Rosie” second encore. Photographer Jeremy Williams was on hand to capture the action:
