Steely Dan Kicks Off 2019 ‘Reelin’ In The Chips’ Las Vegas Residency

By Scott Bernstein Apr 25, 2019 8:53 am PDT

Steely Dan opened their second “Reelin’ In The Chips” residency at The Venetian in Las Vegas on Wednesday night. The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame act focused on beloved material from their initial 1972 – 1980 run, at least while co-founder Donald Fagen was on stage.

The Steely Dan Band, consisting of veteran members and recent addition Connor Kennedy on second guitar, began the night with a cover of Ray Bryant’s “Cubano Chant.” Fagen took the stage to lead the group through “Bodhisattva.” The rest of the set consisted of one “hit” after another including “Hey Nineteen,” “FM (No Static At All),” “Kid Charlemagne,” “Green Earrings,” “Peg,” “Josie” and “My Old School.” Backing vocalists The Danettes had their turn in the spotlight for “Dirty Work.” Steely Dan closed out the night in fitting fashion with a “Reelin’ In The Years” encore. Eight shows remain.
