Arizona-based jam quartet Spafford celebrated Halloween at the Orpheum Theater in Flagstaff. The band debuted a series of covers from the ’90s as part of their home state performance.

Spafford kicked off the show with a debut cover of Marcy Playground’s 1997 hit “Sex And Candy.” The band then displayed their improvisational prowess with 10+ minute versions of originals “Mind’s Unchained” and “Plans.” Next, Spafford covered “Low” by Cracker for the first and only time since they teamed with Cracker’s David Lowery to perform the song on October 25, 2017. An expansive “Todd’s Tots,” the 2018 debut of “Seven” and a version of The CheekTones’ “Sweet” featuring the band’s Gary Ukura closed out the frame. Ukura played drums on “Sweet,” while Spafford’s Cameron Laforest strummed an acoustic guitar.

The quartet began their second set on Halloween with a debut cover of Smash Mouth’s “Walkin’ On The Sun.” An adventurous “My Road (My Road)” was followed by Spafford’s first ever rendition of “Lithium” by Nirvana. The band then dusted off Stealers Wheel’s “Stuck In The Middle With You” after nearly a year on the shelf. An “America” > “The Reprise” sequence and quick romp through “The Man” brought the second set to a close. Spafford debuted an original titled “Settled In” to start an encore that also featured fan-favorite “Weasel.”
