Spafford Plays All-Improv Sets In Bloomington

Spafford brought their fall tour to The Bluebird in Bloomington, Indiana on Tuesday, where they had a big surprise in store for fans. The quartet presented two completely improvised sets at The Bluebird last night before encoring with “Too Close.”
The quartet consisting of guitarist Brian Moss, bassist Jordan Fairless, drummer Nick Tkachyk and keyboardist Andrew “Red” Johnson took the stage in Bloomington for their first set and began jamming on a theme. About an hour later, after a number of style and tempo changes, Spafford ended the seamless, all-improvised frame of music.
Spafford went with the same game plan for their second set which was a bit longer than the first. It wasn’t until the encore when the vocal mics were used as Red led the group through a cover of Alex Clare’s “Too Close.” Clare originally released “Too Close” on his 2011 studio album, The Lateness Of The Hour.
