Smashing Pumpkins Unveil New Lineup On ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’

Alt-rock legends Smashing Pumpkins showed off their new lineup featuring three out of four original members last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The band performed their new single as well as a classic from 1995’s Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness.

Frontman Billy Corgan is joined in the latest iteration of Smashing Pumpkins by original guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin as well as longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder. Original bassist D’arcy Wretzky is not taking part in the reunion, so touring bassist Jack Bates was on stage with the Pumpkins for their visit to Fallon.

Corgan, Iha, Chamberlin and Schroeder initially tested the waters before announcing their forthcoming tour by assembling with producer Rick Rubin at the famed Shangri La Studios in Malibu to record a series of tracks. The first single released from the sessions was “Solara,” which Smashing Pumpkins performed for Monday night’s broadcast. Smashing Pumpkins also played Melon Collie & The Infinite Sadness single “Zero” as a web exclusive.
