Sierra Ferrell Goes ‘American Dreaming’ With Mumford & Sons Members In England

Mumford & Sons continued their first tour of the UK in six years on Wednesday with a concert at Manchester, England’s Co-op Live. Sierra Ferrell brought out Marcus Mumford and Ben Lovett from the British trio for “American Dreaming” during her support set and later joined Mumford & Sons for a collaborative tune during their headlining performance.

Ferrell opened the last few shows of Mumford & Sons’ recently completed North American tour and has resumed the support role as the band tours their home country. While Sierra Ferrell has sat-in with the trio several times during their time on the road together, Mumford and Lovett repaid the favor in Manchester.

“American Dreaming” is the opening track from Ferrell’s Grammy-winning 2024 album Trail of Flowers. The Melody Walker-penned tune earned Ferrell the Best American Roots Song and Best Americana Performance Grammys earlier this year.

Last night, Marcus Mumford played guitar and Ben Lovett handled accordion duties on Ferrell’s version of “American Dreaming” in Manchester. Mumford also sang as the pair bolstered Sierra Ferrell’s backing band.

Sierra Ferrell went on to perform “Here” with Mumford & Sons to end the first main stage portion of their set. Ferrell has teamed with the group to sing the unreleased song at the last few shows of the UK tour. Mumford & Sons and Sierra Ferrell previously covered Townes Van Zandt's “If I Needed You” on Saturday night in Newcastle and at October concerts in Nashville, Tulsa and Omaha.
