Singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten shared a cover of The Velvet Underground classic “Femme Fatale” featuring backing vocals from Angel Olsen. The track appears on I'll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute To The Velvet Underground & Nico, a compilation set for release next Friday, September 24 through Verve Records.
The late Hal Willner, a longtime friend of Lou Reed, served as executive producer for the track-by-track reimagination of The Velvet Underground & Nico’s self-titled 1967 debut album. I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute To The Velvet Underground & Nico contributions previously shared are Kurt Vile & The Violators’ “Run Run Run,” Matt Berninger of The National’s “I'm Waiting For The Man”, Courtney Barnett’s “I'll Be Your Mirror” and Iggy Pop & Matt Sweeney’s “European Son.” Michael Stipe, St. Vincent & Thomas Bartlett, Andrew Bird and Lucius are among others who appear on the compilation.
Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen first joined forces earlier this year for “Like I Used To,” a collaborative single. “Even though we weren’t super close, I always felt supported by Angel and considered her a peer in this weird world of touring. We highway high-fived many times along the way…I finally got the courage in June of 2020 to reach out to see if she would want to sing together,” Van Etten stated when “Like I Used To” was released.
