New Orleans legends Preservation Hall Jazz Band kicked off their annual Midnight Preserves Jazz Fest series at their home venue Preservation Hall last night and welcomed special guest Sharon Jones. Jones was in town performing at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival with The Dap-Kings earlier in the day.

After the Preservation Hall Jazz Band warmed up the crowd with some traditional jazz and New Orleans favorites such as “Tootie Ma” and a Mardi Gras Indian chant, creative director for the Hall Ben Jaffe welcomed Jones to the microphone by talking about how he and his wife had seen Prince at Madison Square Garden when Prince brought Sharon on stage, and ever since then Ben had wanted to get Jones to perform at the Hall.

They played three songs together, including a Dap-Kings original, “Summertime” and “When The Saints Go Marching In,” much to the crowd’s delight.
