Sabrina Carpenter pulled double duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Carpenter’s performance of “Manchild” featured Trey Anastasio Band’s Kenneth Whalum playing saxophone.

Carpenter put out “Manchild” as the lead single for her recently released album, Man’s Best Friend. Her SNL appearance also included a performance of the fellow album track, “Nobody’s Son.”

Whalum, who first performed with TAB in 2022 while filling in for the late James Casey and was with Trey Anastasio’s solo band for their shows in August, emerged in the middle of “Manchild.” Sporting striped pajamas to match Carpenter’s bedroom stage motif, Whalum crossed the 30 Rock stage and then promptly added a sizzling sax part to the end of the song.
