Short N’ Sweet N’ Tiny: Sabrina Carpenter Performs NPR ‘Tiny Desk Concert’

Sabrina Carpenter spent part of this year on her Short N’ Sweet Tour headlining arenas for the first time, setting the bar for an increase in venue growth from 2023. While Carpenter made the big leap from theaters to playing in front of massive arena-sized audiences, the pop star also recently stopped by the office of NPR Music to perform an intimate Tiny Desk Concert.

The six-song set focused exclusively on songs off her platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated album, Short N’ Sweet. Carpenter is nominated for Album Of The Year for her sixth full length release and the former Disney Channel star is also up for the Grammy Awards for Best New Artist.

Additionally, Carpenter is nominated for Song Of The Year for the Short N’ Sweet track “Please Please Please” and Record Of The Year for the album’s ubiquitous hit “Espresso.”

Both of those songs were performed by Carpenter during her Tiny Desk Performance. The session was rounded out with fellow album cuts, “Taste,” “Bad Chem,” “Slim Pickens and “Juno.”

“When I first started [writing songs] it was kinda in a room like this — a room with very dry walls and there’s no reverb,” Carpenter said. “But there’s something so real and special.”

Carpenter was joined by a live band made up of guitarist Caleb Nelson, drummer Chris Johnson, bassist Bobby Wooten III, keyboardist Haeun “hani” You, pedal steel guitarist Matt Park, as well as a string section comprised of Yasmeen “YAS” Al-Mazeedi and Sarena Hsu on violin, Alexandra Simpson on viola and Marza Merophi Wilks on cello.

Backing vocalists MIA MOR and Christine Noel Smit also crowded into the cramped office space. Carpenter cheekily added chimes during “Juno.”
