The world premiere of a television pilot starring guitarist Ryley Walker will take place at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. “Ryley Walker & Friends” is one of four Duplass Brothers Productions pilots that will be screened at the “Duplass Brothers Indie TV Showcase” at Austin’s Stateside Theatre on Monday, March 11 starting at 8:30 p.m. CT.

Mark and Jay Duplass primarly wrote and directed the excellent HBO television series Togetherness. Mark Duplass co-starred in the two seasons of the show with Amanda Peet, Melanie Lynskey, Abby Ryder Fortson and Steve Zissis. The Duplass Brothers also created and produced the current HBO series Somebody Somewhere and wrote and directed such films as Baghead (2008) and Jeff, Who Lives At Home (2011). The pair founded Duplass Brothers Productions in 1996.

“Ryley joins one of his songwriting idols, Bridget St. John, at her cabin in upper New York where they share a meal, make some music, and compare manicures,” reads a description of the pilot from the SXSW website. The “Duplass Brothers Indie TV Showcase” will also include the Texas premieres of “Penelope” and “The Long Long Night” as well as the world premiere of “The Broadcast.”

Mark Duplass directed “Ryley Walker & Friends” and served as an executive producer along with Walker, Jay Duplass and Mel Eslyn. The runtime is listed as 27 minutes. Mark Duplass, Mel Eslyn, Natalie Palamides (“The Broadcast” co-star/director/writer), Courtney Pauroso (“The Broadcast” co-star/director/writer) and Barret O’Brien (“The Long Long Night” director/screenwriter) will participate in a post-screening Q&A. However, don’t expect to see Walker in attendance.

“I’m good on SXSW,” Ryley Walker wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Don’t wanna do bumps of stepped on coke w booking agent who lies about being friends w schoolboy q.”

Primary access to “Duplass Brothers Indie TV Showcase” will be given to those with Platinum and Film & TV Badges. Secondary access will be granted to SXSW attendees with a Music Badge, Interactive Badge or Film & TV Festival Wristbands.
