Rush returned to Los Angeles’ Kia Forum on Saturday to end their run of four shows at famed Los Angeles arena to kick off The Fifty Something Tour. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson along with newcomers Anika Nilles and Loren Gold utlilized different setlists each night, with the long-lost “A Farewell To Kings” among three tour debuts played on Saturday.
The title track to Rush’s 1977 studio album hadn’t been performed live since 1979. “A Farewell To Kings” was dusted off towards the end of the band’s 28-song concert in Los Angeles. Rush nailed the track, which seemed well-rehearsed, despite its 47-year absence from the stage.
Earlier in the night, Rush trotted out “The Pass” and “The Anarchist” within their first of two sets. Presto cut “The Pass” was last performed in 2013, while Clockwork Angels’ “The Anarchist” had been missing from setlists since 2015.
The Fifty Something Tour marks Rush’s first tour in 11 years and first since the death of drummer Neil Peart in 2020. Multiple montages honoring Peart were displayed on screens behind the band every night. Twelve songs were played at each of the four shows, including “Limelight,” “Subdivisions,” “The Spirit Of Radio,” “Tom Sawyer,” “YYZ” and “Time Stand Still” featuring special guest Aimee Mann.
On Sunday, Rush posted a note of appreciation for their “effin’ amazing” first week back on social media, writing:
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this week so effin’ amazing!
For embracing Anika and Loren so profoundly.
To Aimee Mann for joining us on Time Stand Still in tribute to Neil.
To you, our fans, your steadfast support is what has made this a reality.
We are forever grateful ❤️
