Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Kick Off North American Tour In Canadaigua

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss launched their first tour in 13 years on Wednesday night at CMAC in Canandaigua, New York. The Led Zeppelin frontman and bluegrass great went heavy on songs from their recently released album, Raise The Roof, at CMAC and also included a handful of Led Zeppelin classics and tunes from 2007’s Raising Sand into last night’s setlist.

Plant and Krauss were backed by drummer Jay Bellerose, guitarist JD McPherson, bassist Dennis Crouch and multi-instrumentalists Stuart Duncan and Viktor Krauss. The evening featured an 18-song main set followed by a two-song encore.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss started the evening with Raising Sand opener “Rich Woman,” a tune originally recorded by Li’l Millet & His Creoles. The pair then looked to Raise The Roof for “Quattro” and the “Price Of Love” with Raising Sand’s “Fortune Teller” in between. Plant and Krauss powered through Led Zeppelin’s “Rock & Roll” next before returning to Raising Sand for “Please Read The Letter” and “Let The Loss Be Your Lesson.”

The focus was put on Raise The Roof next with a six-song run featuring “High & Lonesome,” “Last Kind Word Blues,” “You Led Me To The Wrong,” “Trouble With My Lover,” “Go Your Way” and “It Don’t Bother Me.” Plant and Krauss then led the Led Zeppelin repertoire staples “The Battle Of Evermore” and “When The Levee Breaks,” which were broken up by Raise The Roof’s “Searching For My Love.” The main concluded with the pairing of The Everly Brothers’ “Gone Gone Gone” and Brenda Burns’ “Somebody Was Watching Over Me.”

Plant and Krauss came back to front the band on The Everly Brothers’ “Stick With Me Baby” and Raise The Roof standout “Can’t Let Go” to cap the evening as the encore in Canandaigua, New York. The tour continues at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York tomorrow, Friday, June 3.
