Death Cab For Cutie Returns To NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’ For Catalog-Spanning Performance

Death Cab for Cutie returned to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series for the first time in over 11 years, bringing their current full-band lineup to the intimate performance space for a four-song session spanning their catalog.

Benjamin Gibbard, Nicolas Harmer, Jason McGerr, Dave Depper and Zac Rae performed two songs from the band’s recently released 11th studio album, I Built You A Tower, before revisiting material from two of Death Cab For Cutie’s most beloved albums.

The session opened with “Pep Talk” and “Stone Over Water,” both featured on I Built You A Tower. The band then reached back to 2003’s Transatlanticism for “Title & Registration” before closing with “Soul Meets Body” from 2005’s Plans.

Death Cab first performed at Tiny Desk in 2015. At the time, Gibbard appeared with Harmer and McGerr as a trio. More than a decade later, the band brought the full five-piece lineup to NPR for a performance that connects its newest material with songs that have remained staples of its catalog.
