Last night in Texas, for the third show in a row, Gov’t Mule welcomed guitarist Gordie Johnson and percussionist Rey Arteaga to sit-in. The pair of Revolution Come…Revolution Go collaborators first sat-in on Thursday in Austin and also added to Friday’s show in San Antonio. On Saturday in Dallas, the pair made their presence felt as part of both sets and the encore at the Majestic Theatre.
Arteaga and Johnson initially emerged towards the end of the first set to augment a cover of “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” and the original “Sco-Mule.” Rey added his congas to most of the second set starting with the third song of the frame, “Doing It To Death.” Arteaga stuck around for the rest of the set including “Sarah, Surrender,” “Stone Cold Rage” and “Traveling Tune” off Mule’s recently released studio album. Johnson also contributed to “Traveling Tune” as well as the “30 Days In The Hole” > “Mississippi Queen” > “I Don’t Need No Doctor” > “30 Days In The Hole” segment that ended the second set.
Gov’t Mule’s encore in Dallas featured both Rey and Gordie. The pair added to the quartet’s cover of Tom Waits’ “Get Behind The Mule.” Warren Haynes & Co. last played “Get Behind The Mule” on November 2, 2016. The band’s Texas run concludes on Monday night in Houston.
