REPRISE recreated Phish's December 29, 1996 show on Saturday night at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia. The tribute act brought out Phish lyricist Tom Marshall to reenact his guest appearance from the original show at The Spectrum on a cover of Oasis' “Champagne Supernova” towards the end of the second set.
Tom Marshall has endorsed the cover band since the group’s inception in 2024. REPRISE consists of guitarist Cal Kehoe, drummer Adrian Tramontano, bassist Chris DeAngelis and keyboardist Scott Chasolen. The quartet recreates iconic Phish shows from the band’s history.
REPRISE honored Phish’s legacy in Philadelphia by performing the second show of the band’s 1996 New Year’s Run on Saturday. The band stayed true to the original setlist, which featured a “Rotation Jam” and debut cover of “Sixteen Candles” within the second set.
“Harpua” followed “YEM” with REPRISE working elements of the story Phish told 29 years prior at The Spectrum into the song. Marshall came out mid-“Harpua” sporting the same Gallagher brother-style sunglasses he wore on stage at The Spectrum in 1996.
REPRISE referred to Tom Marshall as the “third Gallagher brother” and the “Über Demon” who brought Oasis back together. Marshall sang “Champagne Supernova” before leaving the quartet to finish “Harpua.”
Watch a clip shot by fan Jesse Lang of Marshall performing “Champagne Supernova” with REPRISE and the setlist the band recreated on Saturday (via Phish.net):
Set 1: Poor Heart > Caravan > Cavern > Taste, Guelah Papyrus, Train Song, Rift > Free, The Squirming Coil, La Grange
Set 2: David Bowie, A Day in the Life, Bathtub Gin -> The Lizards, You Enjoy Myself -> Rotation Jam > Sixteen Candles [1] > You Enjoy Myself [2], Harpua [3] -> Champagne Supernova [4] -> Harpua
Encore: Rocky Top
Squirming Coil contained a Sesame Street theme tease from Page. Mike performed the Phish debut of Sixteen Candles solo on piano. Tom Marshall contributed the vocals to the Phish debut of Champagne Supernova as Harpua, Poster, and Jimmy were confronted by the âÃber Demonâ and the âevil sound of hell.â This show featured the return of Caravan, which had been shelved since December 2, 1994 (160 shows).
