Remembering Lowell George | Little Feat With Emmylou & Bonnie

Rocker Lowell George was born on this day in 1945 and went on to perform with Frank Zappa as a member of Mothers Of Invention, led Little Feat during their ’70s heyday and produced a Grateful Dead album (Shakedown Street) before his tragic death in 1979. George was not only an incredibly talented guitarist, but he was also a master songwriter and had a stunning voice filled with emotion.

To celebrate what would’ve been Lowell George’s 70th birthday, let’s look at Little Feat’s 1977 appearance on the music television program The Midnight Special. For this rendition of “Dixie Chicken,” Little Feat were joined by Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt and Jesse Winchester:
