R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe Talks Debut Solo Album & Performs New Song On ‘Colbert’

R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe was a guest on Thursday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Stipe spoke with host Stephen Colbert about his pending debut solo album and performed a new song entitled “The Rest Of Ever.”

The 66-year-old Stipe revealed he is finalizing the lyrics for the songs that will appear on his forthcoming solo debut. The chat with Colbert also touched on R.E.M. sharing the stage together at the 2024 Songwriters Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony and reuniting on stage with Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy as part of the R.E.M. tribute tours.

Stipe previewed his pending solo record, which he said will come out at the end of the year, by debuting “The Rest Of Ever.” The performance saw Stipe backed by the show’s band, Louis Cato and The Great Big Joy Machine.
