Metallica – Hardwired… To Self-Destruct

The Scoop: Today heavy metal legends Metallica unveil Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, the band’s 10th studio album. Metallica had gone eight years since the release of their last studio effort, 2008’s Death Magnetic. The group worked with producer Greg Fidelman on 12 new songs that span nearly 80 minutes of music across two discs. All 12 tracks are credited to founding members James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, (bassist Robert Trujillo received a co-writing credit with the pair on “ManUNkind”) which makes the LP the first not to feature a contribution from Kirk Hammett since he joined Metallica. Ween – GodWeenSatan Live

The Scoop: Just days after the tragic 9/11 attacks Ween was slated to perform at John & Peter’s in their hometown of New Hope, Pennsylvania to celebrate the re-release of their debut album GodWeenSatan: The Oneness. The band debated whether to go ahead with the concert and eventually decided to play. Ween wound up performing each and every track from their debut LP before a grateful crowd, who were happy to have an escape from the horrors of the previous few days. Today Ween unveils a never-before-heard recording of the entire show they played at John & Peter’s on September 14, 2001 as GodWeenSatan Live. The LP marks the first live release from the group in eight years. Listen to “Bumblebee” from the September 14, 2001 concert:

The Who – My Generation Deluxe

The Scoop: Veteran British rockers The Who‘s massive reissue of their 1965 debut album My Generation features three previously unreleased songs from the era. New mixes, alternate takes and other bonus tracks highlight the new edition of the landmark LP. Guitarist Pete Townshend recently discovered tapes in his archive last year and realized demos of “The Girls I Could Have Had,” “As Children We Grew” and “My Own Love” were songs even his band mates had not heard. The deluxe release comes with a new stereo remix featuring new overdubs by Townshend using the exact same guitars and amps as he did in 1965 and frontman Roger Daltrey utilizing the same type of microphone.
