Red Hot Chili Peppers were among the performers at iHeartRadio ALTer EGO 2023 on Saturday night at The Forum outside Los Angeles. The band debuted a trio of songs off Return Of The Dream Canteen, which was one of two new studio albums the band released in 2022.

Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined the concert which saw additional performances by Jack White, Muse, Phoenix, CHVRCHES, Fall Out Boy, Rosa Linn and Beach Weather. RHCP dove right into their new material, playing “Fake as Fu@k” after a warmup jam opened their set. “Black Summer,” from their other 2022 album Unlimited Love, came next. Frontman Anthony Kiedis then led the group through “Snow ((Hey Oh))” off 2006’s Stadium Arcadium.

Another Unlimited Love track, “Aquatic Mouth Dance” came ahead of their 1999 hit “Californication.” Bassist Flea mentioned the band had not played the next song on the setlist, teeing up another debut as drummer Chad Smith pounded the beat for “The Drummer” (after recovering from a false start).

Guitarist John Frusciante then went solo on a cover of “Danny’s Song.” The final debut of the night came in the form of the Return Of The Dream Canteen track “Tippa My Tongue.” The set concluded with the title track to their 2002 album By the Way.
