ALO :: 2.22.14 :: The Fillmore :: San Francisco, CA

Check out a recap and the setlist after Susan’s photos…

Bay Area favorites ALO ended this year’s Tour D’Amour run with a pair of performances at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco on Friday and Saturday nights. On Saturday night the band delivered two high-impact sets filled with beloved originals and fun covers. Roots-rockers Rainbow Girls opened the festivities of Saturday’s finale, while Fred Torphy played a pair of impromptu sets in the venue’s Poster Room -one of which featured Tea Leaf Green keyboardist Trevor Garrod.

Speaking of Tea Leaf, both Garrod and guitarist Josh Clark -who’s celebrating a birthday today -sat in with ALO during the second set on Saturday. Clark emerged along with all of Rainbow Girls for a cover of The Arrows (though you’re probably more familiar with Joan Jett’s version) “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” while Garrod helped out on “Storms & Hurricanes.” Other covers of note included an instrumental take on “My Favorite Things” worked into the “Shapeshifter” opener, Van Morrison’s “He Ain’t Give You None” (in a style similar to those of Jerry Garcia’s solo projects) in between parts of “Try” and a late-in-the-second set “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” (Tears For Fears). Next up for ALO is a pair of dates with Jack Johnson this May.

Set One: Shapeshifter > My Favorite Things > Shapeshifter, Walls of Jericho, Spectrum, Combat Zone > Try > He Ain’t Give You None > Try, Cowboys and Chorus Girls, State of Friction, Animal Liberation

Set Two: Time Is Of The Essence, The Past, I Love Rock & Roll (w/ Rainbow Girls and Josh Clark), Country Electro, Speed Of Dreams, Storms & Hurricanes (w/ Trevor Garrod), Everybody Wants To Rule The World, I Love Music

Encore: Sounds Like That / Barbecue
