On-the-rise jam quartet Pigeons Playing Ping Pong came up with an inventive theme for their December 31, 2017 concert at the Madison Theater in Covington, Kentucky. Pigeons weaved songs from Disney films throughout their two-set “DisNYE” performance. The band shared a taste of the show via professionally-shot video posted on their YouTube channel.

While most of the Disney songs PPPP covered this past New Year’s Eve came from older movies, they did fit in a tune from a recent film. Guitarist Greg Ormont sang “Shiny” from 2016’s Moana. “Shiny” was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame and performed in the movie by Flight Of The Conchords’ Jemaine Clement.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong worked the debut of “Shiny” within their own “King King” as part of the first set at their DisNYE performance. Ormont adapted the lyrics at points including a shout out to Dopapod and the band’s Chuck Jones. Watch the complete “King Kong” > “Shiny” > “King Kong” sequence:
