Pro-Shot Video: The Disco Biscuits End Colorado Run At Fillmore Auditorium

Last night The Disco Biscuits brought their three night Colorado run to a close, with the second of two shows at The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver. The Philadelphia-based band have gone heavy on jams and short on the numbers of songs played, with Friday night’s show featuring just nine tunes and Thursday’s setlist barely reaching double digits with ten. Their Centennial State closer was the most robust of the three as they delivered 13 songs over the course of two sets, which included a pair of big time bust outs and the debut of hip hop cover with augmented lyrics.

The jamtronica pioneers got the night going with “Bionic Helix,” a tune that features a composed “Helicopters” jam that was originally released on Bisco Lives in 2000. The band next dusted off “Big Happy,” which was seeing its first action since January of 2011, with just the second “I Remember When” of the year following. “House Dog Party Favor” came next, with “Spectacle” and the old-school setlist staple “I-Man” closing out the first frame.

The Disco Biscuits kicked off their second set with a lengthy jam-filled sequence that saw the band sandwich the second “Lunar Pursuit” of 2017 between “Crickets.” Next up Jon “Barber” Gutwillig led the Biscuits through an augmented inside joke-referencing cover of Ginuwine’s “Same Ol’ G.” For their debut take on the track from the hip-hop star’s 1999 release 100% Ginuwine, Barber changed the lyrics to reference the night that he fell asleep backstage at an Umphrey’s McGee concert. The picture from that night was later used on Umphrey’s tour laminate this past summer and fall. The four-piece act closed out their final set in Denver with “Floes” and a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell.”

The band saved their biggest surprise for their encore that they busted out the classical composition “In The Hall Of The Mountain King” for the first time since 2004, marking just their eighth version of the tune that dates back to 1875.
