Pink Floyd/Talking Heads/Phish tribute act Pink Talking Fish delivered a show at The Colonial Theatre in Keene, New Hampshire on Saturday, December 2 where they welcomed Phish collaborators the Giant Country Horns. Not only did the show take place on the 40th anniversary of Phish’s first show, it also saw Giant Country Horns returning to The Colonial where a historic Phish concert with GCH took place on July 12, 1991.
After kicking things off with Boston’s “Foreplay/Longtime,” Pink Talking Fish — bassist Eric Gould, keyboardist Richard James, drummer Zack Burwick and guitarist Cal Kehoe — welcomed Giant Country Horns’ saxophonist Dave Grippo, trumpeter Carl Gerhard and saxophonist Russell Remington as they launched into Phish classic “Cavern.”
Gerhard blasted out solos between Kehoe singing the verses with GCH coming together for some stellar work on the chorus. PTF then headed into another vintage Phish number, “AC/DC Bag,” which saw more killer brass from the horn trio. Watch pro-shot video of PTF and GCH performing “Cavern” and “AC/DC Bag” below:

The first set also saw GCH sticking with PTF for Pink Floyd’s “Have A Cigar” and Talking Heads’ “And She Was.” Floyd’s “Dogs” gave the horn trio a quick respite before they returned for Phish’s “Gumbo,” which PTF described as the highlight of the evening in a social media post. Read below:
Well that was simply wonderful! PTF bringing The Giant Country Horns back to The Colonial Theatre in Keene NH. The energy from the moment we all walked into the venue was electric, historic and very special.
One of things we love most with Pink Talking Fish is creating something larger than life beyond the classic concert. This was quite the moment!
For anyone who isn’t aware, the GCH joined Phish at this venue over 30 years ago for one of the most well known shows of their tour together in 1991. Saturday was also the 40th Anniversary of Phish’s 1st performance.
Highlight for us was during “Gumbo” when the GCH all came up to the front of the stage and performed the outro, just the three of them. It was awesome!
Additional songs from Phish’s catlog PTF performed with GCH included “Golgi Apparatus,” “Tweezer,” “Wolfman’s Brother,” “2001” and “Suzy Greenberg.” The concert wrapped with two classic Phish encore songs: Edgar Winter’s “Frankenstein” and “Tweezer Reprise” both with the Giant Country Horns.
