Pigeons Playing Ping Pong began a two-night run at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado on Friday with support from Denver-based band Squeaky Feet. PPPP welcomed Squeaky Feet guitarist Colin Shore for a standout rendition of The Who’s “Eminence Front.”

Shore joined Pigeons toward the end of their second set in Boulder for the 1982 Who classic. The cover kicked off with a sample of the song’s iconic Yamaha E70 organ arpeggios. The intro saw PPPP guitarist Jeremy Schon handling the main riff as Shore added spicy embellishments.

Pigeons frontman Greg Ormont led the band through the song ahead of a vibey jam which Shore navigated with some flighty runs shrouded in silky effects before laying down some serious shred.

Pigeons opened the concert with “Bad For You.” The first frame also saw PPPP pairing up fan-favorite “Melting Lights,” which included a new jam, with “Underworld,” the latter debuted at the 2023 edition of the band’s Domefest, as per Phantasy Tour. “My Own Way,” off Pigeons’ latest studio album Day In Time, followed.

PPPP then welcomed Nick MacDaniels of Big Something — who were also touring in Colorado — for a first-set closing rendition of Blue Öyster Cult’s “Godzilla,” which saw the collab touching on Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.”

Set two got underway with an “improv song” titled “Tonto,” which gave way to “Porcupine.” Following the Shore sit-in, PPPP wrapped the second set by linking up “The Labyrinth” and “Fun in Funk.” Pigeons returned for an encore which saw the band fitting a cover of Radiohead’s “High and Dry” within original “Su Casa.”

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will perform in Flagstaff, Arizona tonight (March 12) en route to the West Coast for a run with The String Cheese Incident. Scroll down for their itinerary and ticket info along with Squeaky Feet’s.
