Pigeons Playing Ping Pong welcomed special guests and debuted both an original and a Radiohead cover on Saturday night in Washington D.C. The show took place at The Anthem in Washington D.C. and was the band’s biggest headlining concert yet.
Saturday’s first set popped off with a “Pop Off” featuring a “The Star-Spangled Banner” introduction. Classics “Poseidon” and “Porcupine” followed before the group was joined by Magic Beans keyboardist Casey Russell for “Henrietta.” Russell was also on hand for a medley of “King Kong” and Stevie Wonder‘s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” that featured the Here Come the Mummies horns. PPPP then went at it alone for “Dawn A New Day” ahead of a “The Liquid” set closer with the horns.
A pairing of “Julia” and “Avalanche” got Pigeons’ second set underway. Both the horns and Russell then returned to add to “Doc.” Casey Russell stuck around for a run of “Burning Up My Time,” PPPP’s debut cover of Radiohead’s “The National Anthem,” “Sir Real” and the end of “Burning Up My Time.” Next up was “Horizon” before Pigeons premiered the original “Lost In Line.” Finally, Russell returned to augment the quartet on “F.U.” to end the frame. Pigeons went on to tip their hat the name of the venue by encoring with “Schwanthem.”
