Pigeons Playing Ping Pong delivered a four-night, multi-city “Jimi Shelter” Halloween run this past weekend with support from Kendall Street Company. The holiday mini-tour saw the quartet performing songs from legendary rockers Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones.
PPPP — guitarist/vocalist Greg Ormont, lead guitarist Jeremy Schon, bassist Ben Carrey and drummer Alex “Gator” Petropulos — launched the “Jimi Shelter” trek on Halloween at The Vogue Theatre in Indianapolis. The band opened the show by weaving in and out of The Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” (first time played) and staple original “High As Five.” The first set also contained premieres of Jimi’s “Manic Depression” and The Stones’ “Angie,” the latter mashed up with “Fire.”
Set two got underway with Pigeons OG “Henrietta” before the band segued through Hendrix’s “Little Wing,” original “Offshoot” and The Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” The quartet wrapped “Offshoot” to close the seamless four-song set opening sequence.

The second set also contained the debuts of Jimi’s “Spanish Castle Magic” and The Stones’ “Under My Thumb,” the latter sandwiched in PPPP’s “Schwanthem” to close the second frame. The Halloween concert came to a close with a first time play of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”

Pigeons then flocked to Brooklyn Bowl Nashville on Friday. The Music City “Jimi Shelter” was also full of debuts for the band including a fitting premiere in Tennessee of The Stones’ “Honky Tonk Women.”
PPPP also delivered debuts of Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” and “Voodoo Child” in the first set along with an unveiling of The Stones’ “Miss You,” which featured renowned Nashville musician Pat Bergeson on harmonica. Additionally, the band welcomed Wes Bailey of Nashville-based band Moon Taxi for PPPP song “Sunny Day” to seal the first set.
Set two contained premieres of “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking,” “Foxy Lady” and “Beast of Burden.” The band also delivered a bustout of “Purple Haze,” last played in 2019, as per Phantasy Tour. The Brooklyn Bowl Nashville show came to a close with Pigeons fitting the debut of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” within original “Ocean Flows” for the encore.

Pigeons then headed down to Chattanooga, Tennessee’s The Signal. The band was initially scheduled to play in Asheville, North Carolina on November 2. The show was moved to Chattanooga due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene in the Asheville area. PPPP’s Signal show was a benefit for disaster relief nonprofit BeLoved Asheville.
“Jimi Shelter” songs performed in one long set in Chattanooga included “The Wind Cries Mary,” “Paint It Black” and “Third Stone From the Sun.” The band debuted “All Along The Watchtower,” “Shine A Light” and “Start Me Up.”

The “Jimi Shelter” finale went down at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina on Sunday. The first set opened with PPPP fan-favorite “Bad For You” and saw the band debuting “Loving Cup” and breaking out “Crosstown Traffic.”
Set two contained a debut of Hendrix’s “Stone Free” along with the guitarist’s “Red House.” Following staple “Poseidon,” Pigeons worked their way into The Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil” and welcomed Ben Vinograd of Big Something on percussion. The second set wrapped with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”
Schon returned to deliver Hendrix’s rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” solo for the first time since the 4th of July 2012. The final song of the “Jimi Shelter” run was Pigeons original “Dawn A New Day.”
