ALO :: 2.26-27.16 :: The Fillmore :: San Francisco, CA
On Friday and Saturday California’s own ALO brought this year’s Tour d’Amour run to a close with three performances at The Fillmore in San Francisco. ALO was assisted by a horn section of Michael Bello on sax and Dave Scott on trumpet during portions of Friday’s first set which featured a performance of the band’s 2002 album Time Expander in its entirety. Guitarist Stu Allen of opening act Stu Allen & The Mars Hotel and the horns came out for a segment of Friday’s second set that included “Try,” “China Cat Sunflower” and “Walls Of Jericho.” The horns stuck around for a “Lady Loop” set closer that also saw keyboardist Jordan Feinstein add to the action. Friday’s show concluded with Jeff Miller, Bo Carper and Dave Mulligan joining ALO for a cover of the Eagles'”Hotel California.” Vocalist Jessica Fierro (daughter of late sax man Martin Fierro) sang “Imagine” by John Lennon backed by ALO as part of Saturday’s singalong matinee. Saturday night’s finale featured contributions from opener Mike Love on David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and Mulligan on “Not Old Yet” following the sing-along matinee.
