George Porter Jr.’s Birthday Bash :: 12.26.15 :: Howlin’ Wolf :: New Orleans, LA

George Porter Jr. celebrated his 68th birthday at the Howlin’ Wolf in New Orleans on Saturday. The performance consisted of three sets. The first set was a guest-filled rendition of Porter’s first album Runnin’ Partner (1990) in its entirety. Porter’s current lineup features Brint Anderson (guitar), Mike Lemmler (keys), Terence Houston (drums) and Khris Royal (sax). Guests included Runnin’ Pardners alums John “Papa” Gros (organ), Alonzo Bowens (sax), Mark Mullins (trombone), Tracy Griffin (trumpet) and Brian Graber (sax). The second set was pulled from Porter’s Searching for a Joy Ride LP (1980), and saw the band accompanied by Doug Belote (drums) and Bruce Macdonald (guitar and vocals). Set Three was a set by the current band, consisting of mostly new tunes.
