New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Days 5 & 6

The 2017 installment of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival rolled on Friday and Saturday with a bevy of performances across its many stages. Friday’s action featured headliners Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Wilco and Earth Wind & Fire following sets from plenty of Big Easy artists including The Revivalists and Anders Osborne. Dave & Tim welcomed Jimmy Buffett for “A Pirate’s Life At Forty” and brought out DMB trumpeter Rashawn Ross for a handful of songs, while Wilco delivered a career-spanning set. Lake Street Dive, Sonny Landreth and Rhiannon Giddens were among the other acts to play the Fairgrounds on Friday.
On Saturday Stevie Wonder made up for his rained out 2016 set. Wonder loaded his set with some of his most beloved hits, namely “Superstition,” “Sir Duke” and “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life.” Recent NPR contest winners Tank & The Bangas showed off the stage presence that earned them the win, NOLA’s own Big Freedia and Irma Thomas represented the Big Easy well as did Dumpstaphunk and The Soul Rebels.
