Phish unveiled “Oblivion,” the second advanced single from their forthcoming studio album, Evolve. The tracklist of the band’s 16th full-length effort, which arrives via JEMP Records on July 12, has also been announced.

Produced by Bryce Goggin and Vance Powell, Evolve consists of 12 tracks. The quartet recorded the LP at their The Barn facility in Vermont last fall. Evolve is now available for pre-order in digital, CD and double LP vinyl formats. “The Well” will be included on vinyl only.

Phish reworked six songs for Evolve that were previously released on guitarist Trey Anastasio‘s albums, including “Life Saving Gun” which initially appeared on his January collaborative studio album with bandmate keyboardist Page McConnell. “Evolve,” “A Wave Of Hope” and “Lonely Trip” were originally recorded and released by Anastasio on his 2020 pandemic album, Lonely Trip, while fellow Evolve cuts “Hey Stranger” and “Mercy” first were issued on his 2022 solo acoustic LP, Mercy.

Of the six songs that have never been issued in any form, at least five were debuted live during Anastasio’s Trey Trio run with Phish drummer Jon Fishman and TAB bassist Dezron Douglas in June 2023 at Denver’s Mission Ballroom. “Oblivion,” “Pillow Jets,” “Monsters,” “Ether Edge” and “Valdese” (entitled “Valdise” on LivePhish) each saw action for the first time during the three-night stand as did Evolve bonus track “The Well.” The track “Human Nature” does not match up with the title of any song previously played by Phish or the band’s side projects.

Phish has performed at least 10 of the songs featured on Evolve live. “Valdese” was shelved after the debut performance by the Trey Anastasio Trio in Denver on June 11, 2023 while “Human Nature” appears to be brand new.

Out today is the studio version of “Oblivion” which follows the release of title track “Evolve” last month. Trey Anastasio wrote “Oblivion” with longtime lyricist Tom Marshall. “Oblivion” was debuted live by the Trey Anastasio Trio on June 9, 2023 and quickly made the jump to the Phish repertoire. The quartet has performed the song a total of 10 times dating back to its Phish debut on July 11, 2023 at opening night of their summer tour in Huntsville, Alabama.
